YEAR-END REVIEW

The year is coming to an end. Time to look back at some of the highlights of 2023.

First win of the 2023/24 season

In their second home game of the current season, the Hoppers welcomed FC Basel 1893 and were aiming for their first win of the season against the Basel side. Thanks to an impressive performance and goals from Morandi, de Carvalho and Dadashov, the Zurich club secured its first championship win under Bruno Berner. All GC goals were scored in the first half.

Mabil's brace against Yverdon

Mabil joined the Hoppers from Cádiz FC at the end of August. In his first game in the starting line-up, Awer Mabil immediately impressed. The Australian scored twice in the 0:3 away win in Yverdon. He also provided the assist for Dorian Babunski's 3:0 and was involved in all three goals.

Ndenge's late winner

It was already the injury time between GC Zurich and FC Lugano when Tsyi Ndenge got the ball in midfield. The midfielder controlled the ball, took a shot from distance and scored to make it 2:1 and secure victory for the Zurich side. It was his third goal of the season, and Ndenge now has seven goals to his name.

YB championship party postponed

On the 30th matchday of CSSL 22/23, BSC Young Boys travelled to Zurich. With three points, YB would have become champions early. Everything was ready for a night full of party in Bern, but the calculation was made without the Hoppers. In the end, they deservedly beat the later champions 4:1 and thus postponed the championship party for a week.

Momo's hat-trick

Momoh scored three goals in his third appearance in the starting eleven this season. The Nigerian scored three times against Stade-Lausanne! Just two minutes passed between the equaliser and the 2:1! In the end, the Hoppers beat FC Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy 5:2.

Away win in Basel

In the 17th CSSL round of the current season, the Hoppers were guests at FC Basel 1893, but were ready and willing to take three points right from the start. In the second half, Dorian Babunski redeemed the Zurich team with his remarkable goal and decided the game in the Hoppers' favour.

5:0 win against Lausanne-Sport

There were no goals between GC Zurich and Lausanne-Sport at halftime in the 16th CSSL round of the current season. In the second half, however, there were 5! Junghopper Filipe de Carvalho opened the score straight after the restart. Justin Hammel also held a penalty against Kaly Sène in the 81st minute.

Last-minute goal from distance

Everything looked set for a 0-0 draw between GC Zurich and FC Basel 1893 in the 19th CSSL round of the 22/23 season. But then Dadashov was sent deep once again, FCB goalkeeper Marvin Hitz was able to clear in front of the striker, but the ball ended up at the feet of Hayao Kawabe, who scored from long range to make it 1-0 in the 94th minute!
