MARCO SCHÄLLIBAUM APPOINTED NEW HEAD COACH AT GC ZURICH

Grasshopper Club Zurich are delighted to announce the appointment of Marco Schällibaum as the new head coach. The 62-year-old Zurich native brings with him a wealth of Super League experience and will be supported by the existing coaching staff.

As a long-standing coach in the Super League, Schällibaum has extensive knowledge of the Swiss football landscape. Born in Zurich, he began his professional football career at the age of 18 as a defender for GC Zurich, with whom he won the championship three times and the cup. Following his playing career, he began his coaching path in 1994 at Stade Nyonnais and then worked as an assistant coach under Christian Gross at FC Basel. He went on to hold various positions in the Super League, including spells with BSC Young Boys, whom he led to UEFA Cup qualification in 2003, Servette FC, AC Bellinzona and FC Lugano. He has also worked as a FIFA coaching instructor in Asia and led MLS side Montreal Impact to the 2013 Canadian league championship and playoffs. During his most recent spell in charge of Yverdon Sport, Schällibaum led the team into the Super League, where they made a strong start to the season and finished with a positive points tally.

Sport Director Stephan Schwarz welcomes the new coach: "We are delighted to have Marco Schällibaum as the new head coach of GC Zurich. With his experience, personality and presence, he will lead the team in the right direction. We are convinced that together we will manage to stay in the league”.

Marco Schällibaum is looking forward to the new challenge: "I am very much looking forward to my new role at GC Zurich. There is no doubt that we are facing a challenge, but I will lead the team with all my strength and determination to achieve our clear goal. And, I am absolutely convinced that we will achieve this. I would like to thank the sporting management for their confidence and look forward to a successful collaboration.”
