Abubakar started his career in Europe at Dutch club Willem II and then moved to MVV Maastricht in the Eredivisie, before joining SC Kriens in 2019. In 2021, he then moved to Super League side FC Lugano. A year later he was on the move again, this time to FC Lucerne, where he made 62 appearances and scored 17 goals. Standing at 1.83m tall, the offensive player already has plenty of Super League experience with 90 appearances under his belt.
"We are convinced that Asumah Abubakar's qualities will strengthen our attacking options," said sporting director Bernt Haas. "He has already played under Bruno and is very familiar with the Super League, which means he can make an immediate impact for the team.
Asumah Abubakar will train with the squad for the first time tomorrow and will wear shirt number 27. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.
Grasshopper Club Zurich extends a warm welcome to Asumah Abubakar.
