Grasshopper Club Zurich is pleased to announce the extension of captain Amir Abrashi’s contract for a further year until 2025.

The Bischofszell-born player has made over 200 appearances for blue-and-white. During the current season, captain Abrashi has proven to be a key player for the club. In addition to his outstanding play, he has also taken on a lot of responsibility off the pitch, leading the newly-formed team with his energy and passion.

His fighting spirit and tireless dedication are an inspiration not only to the team but also to the fans. The 33-year-old midfielder played for GCZ from 2010 to 2015. He then joined SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga before returning to the Hoppers in 2021. Throughout the current season, he has been at the top of his game.

Technical Director Bernt Haas said of Abrashi: "Amir has made a huge contribution this season and has proven to be a key player. He has been instrumental in the integration of new players and is an indispensable performer on the pitch, bringing a fighting spirit and passion like no other. Amir is an important identification figure for GC Zurich and a role model as a person, a captain and a professional. We are proud to have him with us.”

"For me, there is no other club than GC Zurich," said Amir Abrashi about his contract extension. " Here, I have learnt, experienced, and developed a lot. I feel at home here. I'm happy that I can continue to play for the club that is close to my heart and reaches my full potential. Now my story continues here. I thank the club for their confidence and look forward to the future.”

Grasshopper Club Zurich is delighted to have Amir Abrashi as part of the team and wishes him continued success.
