Grasshopper Club Zürich is pleased to announce the signing of Georg Margreitter. The centre-back has signed a 1-year contract in Zurich.

With over 300 professional games in Germany, Austria, Denmark and England, the Austrian brings valuable experience to the young GC squad. Educated in Austria (AKA Voralberg), he made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga as a 19-year-old with LASK. After stints at FC Magna and Austria Wien, Margreitter moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2013, where he was loaned out twice (FC Copenhagen, Chesterfield FC). Since 2015, the Austrian has been with German side 1.FC Nürnberg, where he played 139 competitive games in six years. Of these, 27 in the Bundesliga and 102 in the 2nd Bundesliga. Last season, the central defender appeared in 18 competitive games.

Now the 32-year-old is moving to GC: "I've been lucky in my career that I've always been able to play for traditional clubs. It was important for me to join a club that has a tangible history. And GC is definitely such a club. You'll feel that in the coming season as well, and that's something I'm really looking forward to."

Seyi Olofinjana is looking forward to the new arrival: "With Georg, we were able sign a player who already brings a lot of experience and a valuable balance to our young team. He has proven his abilities at a top level over the last six years with Nürnberg and we are delighted to have him in Zurich."

Grasshopper Club Zurich welcomes Georg Margreitter to Zurich and looks forward to working with him.
