The 1.90-metre Tobers proves his qualities not only as a central defender, but also as a central midfielder in the Latvian national team. In January 2020, he joined Lechia Gdańsk on loan, where he quickly made a name for himself in the Ekstraklasa, proving his abilities in 70 appearances. During his career, Tobers was able to play in 6 UEFA Europa League (qualifying) matches. Kristers Tobers has been a member of the Latvian national team since U16. The current captain made his senior debut in 2019 and has since made 24 appearances. He joins the Swiss record champions on a free transfer and will take part in the training camp in Crans Montana.
Bruno Berner says: "With Kristers, we are pleased to have a player with a lot of international experience at GC Zurich. He brings great versatility to our team and can be used as a central defender as well as a defensive midfielder. He thus strengthens the team and expands our options. With his open personality and motivation, he will also complement us perfectly off the pitch."
Grasshopper Club Zürich extends a warm welcome to Kristers and looks forward to his valuable contribution.
