CHANGES WITHIN THE SPORTING DEPARTMENT

Grasshopper Club Zurich announces recent personnel changes within the sporting department. Erminio Piserchia, the former assistant coach of the first team, will take over the responsibility for the youth department as Technical Director with immediate effect. The club decided not to extend its cooperation with Christian Maier, which expired at the end of 2022.

"We thank Christian for his commitment to the club and for the very productive cooperation. At the same time, we are pleased to have found an internal solution with Erminio Piserchia, an experienced professional who is already familiar with our club and its environment, and can ensure the necessary continuity," said Sporting Director Bernt Haas. "Erminio has gained years of experience in the youth department of Young Boys, both as a coach and as technical director. Thanks to his proven interpersonal and professional skills, he will, among other things, ensure optimal cooperation and constant, constructive interaction between the youth department and the first team."

Erminio Piserchia joined Grasshopper Club Zürich in June 2021 as assistant coach to Giorgio Contini. In his previous positions, the 58-year-old Italian worked for YB for over 17 years in various roles at different levels - as a coach and head of the youth department, as well as assistant coach and interim head coach for the first team.

Romain Villiger will take over the role from Erminio Piserchia and thus act as Giorgio Contini's new assistant coach. The 40-year-old from Berne was previously talent manager for the Grasshoppers and has already worked closely with the first-team coaching staff in recent months. In his career to date, Villiger has already gained a wide range of coaching experience, first in the youth department of FC Basel and then as assistant coach at FC Wil 1900 and FC Vaduz.

In connection to these changes, the club will also present its new U21 head coach in the next days, after Goran Ivelj and Grasshopper Club Zürich decided to end their cooperation at the end of January. During his four years at Grasshoppers, Ivelj has worked as a youth coach, talent manager and assistant coach. Assistant coach Tobias Wenk and athletics coach Walter Grüter will also be leaving the club after working for GC Zürich in various capacities for many years.

"I would like to express my sincere thanks to Goran, Walter and Tobias for their great passion and commitment to Grasshopper Club Zurich over the last years. We wish them all the best for their personal and professional future," added sporting director Haas.

Grasshopper Club Zurich wishes Erminio and Romain a good start in their new roles and looks forward to continuing the positive and exciting collaboration.
