Grasshopper Club Zurich are pleased to announce the signing of Japanese defender Ayumu Seko. The 21-year-old centre-back joins GC from Japanese first division side Cerezo Ozaka and has signed a contract until 2025.
The Japanese defender has already played 129 official games for Cerezo Osaka, in which he contributed three goals and four assists. At the age of 18, the Japanese centre-back made his debut for the U20 national team, with whom he collected five appearances and took part in the U20 FIFA World Cup in Poland in 2019.
In the 2020 season, the Japanese player was also selected as the best young player of the year in the Japanese J1 League.
Seko, who is now part of the Japan national team squad, joins Grasshopper Club Zurich from Cerezo Osaka and will arrive in Zurich next week.
Technical Director Seyi Olofinjana said: "In addition to his strong defensive qualities, Seko possesses good technical skills and has already gained a lot of experience despite his young age. We believe he will be able to develop further with us and, with his qualities, he will strengthen our defensive game.
Grasshopper Club Zurich is pleased to welcome Ayumu Seko to Zurich soon and looks forward to working with him.
