Grasshopper Club Zurich is pleased to announce that Hayao Kawabe has signed a 3-year contract. The necessary sports medical examinations have been completed and the Japanese international has already started team training.
Kawabe joins GC from Japanese first division club Sanfrecce Hiroshima. The 25-year-old played a total of 151 games for his youth club, in which he scored or assisted 24 times. Kawabe has also been in the squad of the Japanese national team since this year. The defensive midfielder has made four appearances and scored one goal for Japan.
Seyi Olofinjana is looking forward to the new arrival: "Hayao has already gained a lot of experience in the J1 League and in the Japanese national team. We are pleased that we could win such a player with international status for us. He has shown that he is ready for the next step and we are delighted that he wants to take this next step together with us."
