THE HOPPERS BEFORE THE FIRST LEG OF THE BARRAGE

Following the conclusion of the CSSL 23/24 season, the Hoppers now face the barrage games. Tomorrow, Sunday, they will host FC Thun Berner Oberland for the first leg in Zurich.

The team ended the CSSL 23/24 season with a 0:0 draw away to Lausanne-Sport and now faces the barrage games. For the first time in the club's history, GC Zurich will have to play them. Their opponents are this year's runners-up in the DCL, FC Thun Berner Oberland. The last meeting between Thun and Zurich dates back to the 21/22 season, when GC Zurich were beaten 1:0 away from home in the Swiss Cup.

Head coach Marco Schällibaum before the game: "We finished the relegation group in second place and have made good progress. But it's also the case that the barrage is something completely different again. My team knows what's at stake and they're working very hard.  This makes me feel positive for the game on Sunday."

The Bernese Oberland team narrowly missed out on direct promotion. In the end, they fell three points short of FC Sion. Thun's offense was particularly impressive during the 23/24 DCL season. With 73 goals scored, they were the most prolific DCL offense. Thun have been in the barrage twice so far. They faced FC Vaduz in 2020 and FC Sion in 2021. Although Thun won one match each in 2020 & 2021, they were ultimately beaten on aggregate both times.

Head coach Marco Schällibaum can count on the entire squad against Thun, apart from the long-term injuries.

As usual, the match can be followed on 86live via live ticker and radio. The game can also be seen on Pay TV on blue Sport.
