“A stable academy is essential for the sporting success of Grasshopper Club Zurich”, says Sports Director Stephan Schwarz. “Restructuring and rebuilding the youth academy are key components of our strategy. With the new Technical Director and the Head of Development, we have created a management structure with extensive expertise in Swiss youth football. This puts us in an ideal position for the future.”
Remo Gaugler, a recognized expert in Swiss youth football, takes on the role of Technical Director of the youth department. The 55-year-old gained valuable experience during his 16 years as a youth coach at FC Basel. He then spent four years at FC Luzern as head scout, assistant coach, and sporting coordinator. Most recently, Gaugler returned to FC Basel to lead the youth program from 2021 to 2023.
Sandro Chieffo will take over as Head of Youth Development. Chieffo has a long history with Grasshopper Club Zurich, where he spent 13 years as a youth player and later worked in the club's academy.The 44-year-old holds a UEFA Pro Licence and was most recently head coach at AC Bellinzona. In his new role as head of training, he will be responsible for the sporting development of talented young players and helping them integrate into the professional game. He will further co-lead the coaching development.
